Word has come out – Dahab, Egypt is one of the new hotspots for digital nomads that is continuously growing in popularity. Whether you’re a kite surfer, diver or simply looking for a growing community of digital nomads to live amongst, Dahab is slowly becoming the place to be.
Having spent five months in total living in Dahab, there is no question to why this is the case. Relaxed vibe, delicious food and breath-taking underwater world are just some of the amazing things that Dahab offers.
And with a plethora of nice cafes and restaurants dotted about, there are also plenty of places to work from. In fact, having worked in many places in different countries, my favourite place I’ve worked from is in Dahab – and here’s why.
Best place to work from in Dahab, Egypt
You know the feeling when you go to the same place over and over that the people working there become your friends you joke with and the place starts to feel like home?
This is how we felt at Fresh Fish. A small restaurant in the main area in Dahab, located by the sea shore with stunning views of the sea and the rest of the town.
Out of all places that we have worked from in Dahab, Fresh Fish won us over with its friendly staff, incredibly delicious food and a simple chill vibe.
An amazing fish tajine for lunch and om ali (local Egyptian dessert) to follow was the daily norm, while we worked either from one of their tables or directly from the sunlougers. A bliss.
And I haven’t even mentioned the best part yet – you can spend your lunch break snorkelling and admiring the unbelievably beautiful coral reef that is right in front of the restaurant. You certainly don’t get this at many places! You can even rent a mask and snorkel and fins from the restaurant if you don’t have your own.
The coral reef near Fresh Fish restaurant (in the Lighthouse area in Dahab) is one of the best and most vibrant ones in the town with thousands of tropical fish. We even spotted dolphins once swimming just in front of the restaurant while we were still working – what a dream!!
Whether I’ve decided to snorkel or sunbathe under the Egyptian sun with a fresh lemon juice in hand, my lunch breaks here have literally been my favourite thing in the world.
End of Day at Fresh Fish
After a productive day of work, there’s nothing more rewarding than enjoying a stunning sunset. The positioning of Fresh Fish is perfect for watching the sun go down and the sky change its colours. I love spending my evenings here enjoying the sunset with the local cats.
Many times we would stay after the work day has finished and enjoy another delicious meal for dinner from the extensive menu. There are so many choices but we’d usually go for the same thing every day (why change a good thing right?) – fish tajine for me and chicken kebab for Joe. The food here really was unbeatable and I still dream of returning back to Dahab just to have the tajine at Fresh Fish again.
While it doesn’t look like anything special on the surface, we loved Fresh Fish restaurant as a place to work from for its simplicity and for the fact that it offers a variety of dishes and drinks to keep our hunger away while we’re working.
That combined with the quick and easy access to the sea and the relaxing vibe and friendliness of the people working here make Fresh Fish one of the best places to work from in Dahab and a favourite of mine.
One thing to keep in mind
While Dahab has a lot going for it when it comes to being suitable for digital nomads, there’s one big caveat. The internet connection isn’t always stable and most of the time you’d be using your a mobile data sim card to hotspot your laptop than the cafes’ Wi-Fi.
It’s something to keep in mind if your work requires lots of calls, although we’ve met many people that make it work. It just requires a bit more additional admin and sometimes flexibility to make it all work.
A must-do before going to Dahab, Egypt

The first thing I always do before I set off on a trip is get my travel insurance in order. There’s nothing worse than worrying about medical expenses or lost luggage, or worse, needing to pay massive overseas medical bills if something goes wrong.
